Fall colors coming to the Smokies

Ken just got back from a photo workshop in the Smokies that ended on Oct 21st.  The picture above was taken on Oct 19th.  Although there is some color in the mountains, unfortunately for him, the peak fall foliage has not yet arrived.  However, that means you are not too late to see the peak fall foliage in the Smokies.  In fact, according to this Fall Foliage Prediction Map, the peak is not going to hit the area until about Nov 9th this year.

The picture to the left was taken at one of the scenic pull offs along the Foothills Parkway just outside of Townsend, TN on Oct 21st.  There was heavy fog rolling through the mountains that morning.  Even through the dense fog, you can see the spectacular colors popping on those leaves.  The colors are only going to improve over the next two weeks.

The picture to right was taken on Oct 20th, and you can see the fall colors starting on the leaves behind the bear that was trying to fall asleep in the crotch of an oak tree.

If you want to see the fall colors, now is the time to book your stay in the Smokies.  Mountains on My Mind, located in Wears Valley, is just a few miles from the entrance to the new section of the Foothills Parkway as well as only a few miles from the entrance to the Smokies at Metcalf Bottoms.  From the front porch of this particular cabin, you will have an amazing view of the fall colors across Wears Valley and on the surrounding mountains.
